DIY Glitter Spider and My First Video

Happy weekend before Halloween!  I am in the final stages of prepping for the big party next weekend, so what do I decide to do. . . take on another project procrastinate by filming and editing my very first “how to” video.  I have to say I have a HUGE appreciation for all the amazing crafty ladies (My Pink Stamper, Sprinkled with Glitter, etc) that have inspired me to try this whole video thing.  It is a lot of work and time, but super fun to do! 

This is my first video, so please watch with a forgiving heart:-)  I am calling it “My Crafting Organicly”video!

My Pink Stamper’s Blog Hop Challenge!

Last Friday was My Pink Stamper’s monthly blog hop!  It was showcasing two of my favorite stamp sets,Yummy-licious and Sweet Goodness while making a 3-D gift container for a holiday or special occasion.  

Since I am still in the throes of Halloween party makin’ fun, I took a quick break and made a birthday gift for my neighbor’s birthday.  I first made her a wall hanging for her in-home salon and then I decorated a coordinating gift box for her favorite kind of cupcakes.   I actually used a quick go-to stamp technique that I learned from one of My Pink Stamper’s videos.  

She loved it and it really touched her that I remembered her birthday.She is a mother of 6 children, works out of home doing hair,  a fireman’s wife and has  been heavily involved with the care for her father who has Parkinson’s, so she has been spread pretty thin and it was nice to do something fun that was all about her for just a moment. 

Doing this project made me think about how amazing God made women to be.  He knew what He was doing and what to give us to be well equipped to be the “caregiver” in the role of society and the “heartbeat” in the role of family.

A “Spook-alicious” Halloween Card!

Hi everyone!   I have been having so much fun in my craft room these past couple weeks.  I am gearing up for a Halloween party where I have challenged myself that I am going to make all of the decorations and favors.  Even though my craft room looks like Halloween exploded with six different projects going, I did have some time to make a few Halloween cards specifically for family using My Pink Stamper’s Spook-alicious and Spooky Puns stamp set.

Recipe:

Cricut Cartridge: Mini Monsters – Spider and shadow cut at 2 inches (This is my first project with this cartridge and I love with it! I fell in love with this cartridge thanks to Quick Chick Designs.  Check out her Mini Monster inspirations!)

Paper:

Die Cuts with a View: Shimmer Mat Stack (green 4×4, orange, and purple 4 x 5. 1/4)

Recollections Black Mat Card Stock 8×11.5 cut in half and then folded in half for card base.

Recollections White Mat Card Stock 4 x 5 1/4 for the inside of the card

Ribbon – Celebrate it – Halloween Seasonal (made a bow for the Spider)

Glossy Accents (Black  and White Enamel for the eyes)

Signo Uni Ball Gel Pen- White (for the mouth)

Stamps: My Pink Stamper’s Spook-alicious (“Boo to You”) and Spooky Puns (“Happy Boo-day)

Ink: Craft Smart Embossing Ink

Embossing Powder: Martha Stewart’s Peridot Embossing powder (this is the first time embossing anything with heat.  I am using my husband’s commercial grade heat gun, so I was unsure if I was going to catch the house on fire.  It turned out great and it took only a few seconds to do with no need to dial 911 🙂 )

Stickles: Orange Peel (for belly marking on the spider)

White Spiderweb: Stretched just a small amount around the green 4×4 paper.

Stick and Spray: Used to lightly spray on the spiderweb for glitter to stick to it also made it possible to stick the spider to.

Glitter: Creatology Halloween Glitter set (orange) – used to sprinkle on the spiderweb

Who Needs Pottery Barn When You Can DIY for Made it Myself Monday!

I have been saving this for You had Me at Craft’s “Made It Myself Monday”.  Today one of my favorite young ladies (16 year-old Madison from Funky Cards) has the control of MIMM and I am VERY happy for her.  She is such a blessing and encouragement for us, gen Xers, that when we are all old, she is the hopeful example of the generation that will be in charge. 

Now on to the challenge! 

I am obsessed with Pottery Barn.  I love EVERYTHING and I do mean EVERYTHING they have in their catalogue, but like most of you all I do not have a money tree in my back yard, so I have been forced to use their inspiration and do it myself. 

I have had my eye on the Pottery Barn Kid’s banner for Halloween for a few years now, and finally decided to make a couple for myself  and a dear friend. I wanted to challenge myself a little on this project and made it a completely “No Sew” project using my Cricut in cutting out the pattern and material. 

By the way, no matter how easy people say it is on all the message boards and blogs to cut material using their Cricut, it is still very challenging and if you have a trick or tip that you finds works, please let me know :-). I even went out and bought the deep cut blade and housing.

Cricut cartridges:

  • Deep Cut Blade and Housing for Cricut
  • Design Studio
  • Celebrations – Banner pattern cut out of heavy-duty card stock.  It was the triangle pendant at 6 inches
  • Wild Card font at 3 inches and manipulated with Design Studio (if you want the exact measurements, please contact me and I will give them to you)

Medium Ric-Rack – back and orange

Novelty Seasonal Halloween Material found at Jo-Ann’s

Glossy Accents (White Enamel) for the tracing out of letters

Wonder -Under (used for ironing on letters to pendants) – I found that I ironed on the Wonder-Under and then peeled off back and then placed on the Cricut matt to cut seem to work the best.  The settings varied each cut – I had to do a lot of babysitting.

1/2 inch black binding for stringing banner

Random buttons

Glitter Tulle – Jo-Ann’s (cut into 1.5 x 3 inch strips and tied together to make “fluff flower”. Each “fluff flower had 5 strips.)

Straight cutter – Used to cut out pendents using pattern I made.

Pre -sticky bling dots!  Love those for that little sparkle they bring!

Hot glue/gun

Ice pack – to deal with the hot glue burns. 🙂

Happy B-Latte Birthday!

I will let the title speak for itself.  I made this card for my sister-in-law since I did remember her b-day, but forgot to mail her a card.  She loves coffee and I thought what a cute play on words.  This turned out to be one of my favorite cards I have made so far!

I used my Design Studio to weld letters together from the Wild Card cartridge AND got to try out one of my favorite new cartridges, Love You A Latte!   I was a little backwards at first on how it cuts out, but after a few “whoops” moments and some paper waste, I figured it out.  

To get the look I was going for, I had to use the “real size” dial on the base layer and then disable that and cut the layers a few times on different paper for each layer color I wanted.   I decided, that this card recipe would be better explained on a video, so I may shoot my fist one. . . . we will see.

Cartridges:

  • Wild Card for the font (I love the font on this cart!)  font size was 1.5 inches.
  • Love You a Latte Cricut Light – this is so far one of my top 3 fav carts!  Cup shadow (dark brown paper) was cut at 5 1/2 on “real size” then the layers were cut on normal setting at 5 1/2. 

Paper:

  • Recollections off white for card base 8.5×11 cut in half and then using a bone folder, folding in half to make a card
  • Die Cuts with a View – Harvest Gatherings (mini stack 4.5×6.5) cut at 4 x 5 1/4 and then embossed
  • Various scrap for cup layers and lettering (love using scrap paper for these types of projects since I seem to accumulate a ton)

Holy Composition Book Batman!

Today is my neighbor’s 14-year old boy’s birthday.  I made him this composition book.  It was fun to do another boy project!

The Over- the -Top Home Built Play House…

. . . but the kids love it!

Back in mid-summer I mentioned that we were building our girls a play house.  Well, it is finally done.  Actually it has been done for about a month, but I just found some time to photograph it.  

It was an amazing project to create.  We used no plans.  The hubs is a mechanical engineer, so designing things from scratch comes easy to him.  I had a lot of imput, but he did the majority of the work.  I designed the interior and assisted in the endless caulking and painting  (so did the kiddos) . I made the cherry accents using the Tart and Tangy Stampin’ Up set and Stickles!  I also even had a chance to pull out the ol’ Cricut for a vinyl wall accent (The famous quote from Pooh that Christopher Robins says to Pooh Bear.)

I still have curtains, a table-cloth and some accent pillows for the loft to make, but all in all it is done and being played in every day.  

I already called dibs on it when the kids grow to old for it… I am thinking “Craft Flat’!

Monday’s Made It Myself Halloween Party Invites

Sorry I had to cover the address and contact info... my house can only hold so many people! 🙂

Over at You Had Me At Craft, she has a challenge every Monday called, Made It Myself Monday’s.  This weekend I have been working on invites for our Halloween Party.  This will be the first Halloween party I have thrown in our new house.   Anyone that knows me, knows that I love Halloween and the other house we sold was in a neighborhood where the surrounding community would bus in the kids…LITERALLY!  We would have close to 300-400 trick-or-treaters each Halloween. 

This was sooooo up my alley, so I would spend the month decorating, make my big run to Costco for candy and on the big night, I would have an open house for close friends and family where I would make homemade mac and cheese or chili and pull out my COSTCO sized bags, a stool and sit at the door from 5:30-8:30 passing out candy non-stop.   It was so much fun!

Our new neighborhood does have its share of trick-or-treaters, but since we live on a cul-de-sac on a hill, we don’t get many of those little folks decked out as Tink or Spiderman.  So I am taking this in my own hands and throwing a party!

My Pinkalicious Blog Hop Challenge: Wildly Sweet Notebook

Last Friday My Pink Stamper had her monthly My Pinkalicious Blog Hop.  The theme was “school” that could not be a card or scrapbook page.  The ideas and creativity that came along that blog hop was AMAZING!  I have listed at least seven projects I want to do. 

In spirit of the challenge, MPS presented a similar theme for the challenge.  I just had my first chance to make my project last night since my “big” project just wrapped up yesterday.  I have been following the submissions and the creativity and ideas are equally inspiring.  There is a few “crayon wreaths” that I just adore and will make for a couple of teachers this year.

For this challenge, I decided to make my teenage neighbor, who is our baby sitter, a composition book with a my usual “sweet wild” theme. Yes… I know… If I were a contestant on Project Runway and Michael Kors or Nina Garcia were judging me they would be yawning on my same old theme… but I can’t help it, I LOVE animal print and cupcakes!   Since she is in High School, I assume she can use this for all the note taking that comes with the territory of being a high schooler.  I embossed the “cupcake” with the Cuttlebug Number’s folder to give it a more “school time theme”.

Cartridge:  Rock Princess – Cupcake shadow and top cut at 4 inches.

Paper Punch:  Martha Stewart’s Ribbon Punch

Paper:  For base it was 9.5 inches long and 7.5 wide (I cut two sheets one for the front and one for the back). For the bottom front I cut 3 inch long and 7.5 wide and then punched and weaved ribbon through it.  For the spine it was 2.5 wide and 9.5 long.

“Holy Cricut Batman!” Another Birthday Party and My Cricut!

Cake/ Cupcake toppers

I have a dear friend that asked me to do the decorations for her son’s 6th birthday party, using the Marvel Super Hero Comic theme.  Since I have two girls I could not wait to get my hands on a “total boy” birthday project.  

I made cake/cupcake toppers, a 16 foot banner, and hanging “pom-poms”.

For the base of the banner, my friend and I snagged some free promotional comic books from Williams Sonoma.  It was a bit tricky cutting the banners out on the comic book paper, but after a few run throughs, I manged to find the sweet spot of my bug (speed slow, low pressure, and light blade).  I supported the comic paper with a heavy-duty card stock cut at the exact demention.

I did most of the work in Design Studio and used Glossy accents on the “words and number”

This project had a lot of “devil” “vilians” in the details, but I think it paid off in the end.
