Rustic Centerpiece

1233458_10151842160503232_739318158_n

Up over at Kiwi Lane Designs is this fun Pinterest inspired project I cooked up over the weekend using Kiwi Lane Designs templates and Hemptique cord and thread!

A couple of weekends ago we removed a tree from our front yard and I scored a few ideas and a couple of limbs for craft projects! One of the projects, I wanted to make a fun centerpiece that would host a rustic and warm feel of spring and this project was born!

Oh Boy Banner!

DSC_7569

Nothing gets me more excited that making party decor! Last weekend I had the honor to host one a shower for a dear and close friend.  Since it was at our beloved local Mexican restaurant, I kept the decor low key and simple (which on a side note was such a brilliant idea on my part. I usually spend days prepping for hosting parties to only have to clean again the minute the guests leave and the costs were about the same even after feeding the masses a Mexican buffet!). Anyway, my decor was simple and fun and fit the bill perfectly!

In making the banner, I kind of pulled out the kitchen sink of supplies starting with wood banner pennants I scored from Pick Your Plum and then I found my new love in paper lines, Adornit – Rough and Tough! Adding some clothesline, material burlap, ribbon and embellishing the woodcuts from Adornit and PYP with Heidi Swapp Color Shine and Globecraft and Piccolo Gels.  I cut the lettering with my Cricut using Platin Schoolhouse and ran those and all my layers (yes even the burlap and ribbons) through my 5 inch Creative Station adhesive machine from Xyron.

I love when banners come together as easy as this one! It was a hit and a cherished gift for the soon-to-be family of three!

Sticking to Crafting!

524049_10150857700548745_275836723_n

Setting: Me at the school bus pick-up in my yoga pants and T-shirt (yes, I have to rub in the fact I live in Southern California and it is February, however the tables will turn when you all can flush your toilets, water your lawns and have drinking water and we don’t in a few months).

The phone rings and as I am greeted by an ever-so-chatty-happy 5-year-old, I let it go to voice mail. Once in the car, I check my messages and it is from crafting guru Beth Kingston from Xyron. Of course I don’t waste time listening to the message and called the official spokesperson and face of Xyron, Beth Kingston back. She answered and I lost all intelligent thought process and morphed into a modern day crafting troglodyte. I am pretty sure she offered me a gig I applied for on the Xyron design team, because I accepted regardless if she did.

Apparently, they have not “fixed the glitch” and I am really not dreaming so I am super excited to announce I am officially a Xyron girl! Last night my head was so in the clouds that I burned dinner and my house could have caught on fire and I would not have noticed.

Today I am back to the “glamorous” duties of being a SAHM ,but with a huge smile and BIG skip in my step and beyond honored to have my name among the below talent.

Got Spring Fever?

Head over to Kiwi Lane and check out how I made this VERY spring inspired project I have cooked up for today’s post! This was made with many of my fellow crafters in mind that are in need of a bit of a thaw out as I constuct this blog post in shorts and a t-shirt here on the west coast.

Honoring the Stars and Stripes

Today is Veteran’s Day!  It is a day where I think of my personal family and friends that have served this nation.  Today when I raise my flag, I will be thinking of my father who served two tours of in Vietnam and came back with a a Purple Heart, my grandfather who served in WWII, and my friend who just got back from a year in Afghanistan leaving his son who was fighting his battle with  leukemia (Click HERE for a sweet media press about this). The sacrifice our American brothers and sisters give to this nation, when they sign their name on the dotted line, is great and I respect that each day.

I am sharing with you a project I made with DecoArt paint products and an old weather pallet. I am a lucky crafter that has an opportunity to play with DecoArt products and blog about it and when I thought of projects I wanted to do with their paints, I wanted to make something I can hang outside that is a symbol of patriotism all year long.  This was such a fun and easy project to pull together and having my Silhouette Cameo handy gave it additional character.

DSC_7375

Here is how I did it:

For the stars and sentiments, I cut out on vinyl I scored from Pick Your Plum using the basic Silhouette fonts and a star is from the Silhouette store.

After breaking down an old pallet and cutting to the desired size, I painted each board with “Americana White Wash”.

decoart1

Once dry, cut and burnish vinyl images onto the pallet and peel away transfer tape (leave the star block in place at this point). Then paint each pallet red or white.

decoart2

Once stripes are dry, pull off transfer tape around the stars and paint.  Then using a rag, dab “chocolate brown” in random spots along with over the sentiments that are on the white boards.

decoart3

Once fully dry, pull off all vinyl and sand down using both a hand and electric sander to add more of a “distressed” feeling.

decoart4

To set and secure the finished pallets, use wood glue and nail two strips of wood to secure each pallet into place (I used a nail gun, but using nails and a hammer will work just as well). Finish project by sealing it with a sealer.  I used a stain finish.

decoart5

There you have it! Whipping up a patriotic themed project can be fun and easy and having DecoArt be your right hand is a perfect pair in getting a creative job well done.

Here is how I did it!

Materials Needed:

  • Kiwi Lane Templates: Shapes 8T, 7T, Holiday 4T, Nature 4 and 1
  • SEI Card Board Banner Kit
  • Heidi Swapp Gold Lame Color Shine
  • Cuttlebug Embossing Folders: Divine Swirls, Distressed Strips, Swiss Dots, Musical Florish
  • Wooden Lettering
  • Gold Glitter
  • Buttons
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Hemptique Hemp Cord
  • Crinkle Ribbon
  • Tulle
  • Burlap

kiwilanecollage

All I did was design a layout using the actual templates and then I sprayed down some wooden letters with Color Shine and dusted with Glitter. I then traced and cut out templates, ran through the embosser and inked edges. I confirmed placement and then stated to build each pennant by layering burlap, tulle, cut, then letter. I added buttons to finish and then ran hemp cord through the pennants, linking them together.  I finished by cutting down three different colored crinkle ribbon and tied in between each pennant..
