Rockin’ the Baby Chic!

I have a friend down from” Canada eh?” that is 20 weeks preggers and it is her first baby!  She is quite the fashionista and is one of those people who looks amazing ALL the time!  They don’t know the gender of the baby yet, but I wanted to get her something that I found useful when my little one’s were brand new bundles of joy.  I found a zebra print Swaddle Me, baby swaddle with the velcro on it and used that as my inspiration for her quickly made card.

Thanks for coming and sharing a piece of “not your traditional baby card” pie with me.

Wrappin’ Up the 4th!

We had a wonderful 4th of July and I hope that you did as well!  It was filled with parades, swimming, bbqing and fireworks!  I made this little tag to attach to a quick thank you to a dear friend of the family that brought us fireworks for some sparkle fun!

The parade was super fun and this was a quick shot taken before we headed down Main St. with the masses of me and my family.  The plane was made by the hubs 11 years ago for my nephew and now my girls get to have fun in it to!

Thanks for sharing a piece of “makin’ memories” pie with me!

Mini Patriotic Cupcakes Powered By DIY Solar!

WARNING:  There is a lot of yadda, yadda, yadda, yadding going on in this post! 🙂

Hello!  We are sure busy this week, but I did make time to whip up a batch of mini cupcakes for the hub’s “3rd of July Nerd Herd” potluck at his work.  Why is it called that?  I call his gaggle of colleges “The Nerd Herd”since he is a Mechanical Engineer that works in a manufacturing setting alongside other ME’s Chemists, PhD’s and other nerdy influenced professions.  🙂

Actually, I love being married to a member of the ” nerd herd”, the man can fix and do anything! While the solar sales lady was giving us her pitch a month ago, she said,” Even though you have done your full remodel on this house, there is no way you could install solar panels.”  Well those words birthed a new challenge in him and cost her a sale.  He just installed our solar panels himself instead of handing over thousands of dollars to a 3rd party install company (we ended up paying more than 3/4 LESS than what it would have cost us to go through a solar company; making the pay off drastically shorter!). All he had to do is go pick up the panels, the plans, and get the permit from the city (which can be more of a nightmare than installing the 16 panels).  It took about two weekends of him playing with high voltage and balancing on top of the roof with a couple of friends, but they all faired well.  My job was to keep everyone well fed!  The hubs ceases to amaze me in his ability to take things on and figure it out. He is an amazing provider and partner. I feel bad for the suitors that want to date our daughters a DECADE or so from now… their daddy has raised the bar pretty high. 🙂

So back to the cupcakes as I watch my electric meter run backwards . . . These were super easy to make.  I just found a white cake recipe.  I did add lemon juice and zest from one full lemon to cut through the food coloring bite (it worked!) I then separated the cake batter into two bowls and then added the colors to it.  I also threw in white chocolate chips for a little crunch to the cake. I layered the cupcakes with both colors and baked.

For the frosting I found a basic cream cheese based frosting and added two more teaspoons of vanilla to cut the food coloring I was using in the frosting.

Room Temp 8 oz Cream Cheese Block

1 lb of room temp butter

3 teaspoons (this is with the added vanilla)

3 cups of powdered sugar

Cream together until fluffy and smooth

I took a gallon sized Ziplock bag and prepped it with the frosting tip and then squeezed out a line of the food coloring down two sides of the bag and filled it with frosting.  I placed it in the freezer for about 15 minutes (since it was hot out) to firm up and then frosted

Thanks for coming and sharing a piece ” of getting a little bit patriotic” pie with me and HAPPY 4th!

KABOOM! Fireworks Celebration! FCCB#118 Challenge and My 100th Post!

Happy Birthday Week America!  Today is the kick-off of a very big and exciting week around camp Pie!  First off, today is the first time participating in the FCCB (Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog) as a Design Team member and coincidently my 100th post! Secondly, this is the week we celebrate America’s birthday! What better way to start celebrating it, by making a project for this week’s challenge at FCCB!

This week’s challenge over at FCCB is making a project with a firework, sparkler, rocket, or anything that goes KABOOM! Follow me on over  and get to creating! I would love to see what you got cookn’ with your Cricut!

What I came up with was making personalized candy tossing pails for the kiddos that are doing the 4th of July Push and Pull’em Parade with us.  It is a parade where there are literally more people in the parade than watching it.  It is a time for 100’s of local families and friends to get together and deck out their scooters, strollers, bikes, wagons and whatever else they can get their hands on and just celebrate this great nation’s birthday!  It does dump into a HUGE street fair, which is TROUBLE for me…and the hubs wallet!

Picture from the position of “middle” of the 4th of July Push and Pull’em Parade… yeah it is the hot spot to be every July 4th!

I really like working with vinyl and I had a new stamp set to test out, so I was in heaven this past week in my craft studio.  Needless to say I was having a ton of fun whipping out 5 of these.

Hope you all have a wonderful and safe 4th!  Thanks for coming and sharing a piece of, “Happy Birthday America” pie with me.

Gettin’ Patriotic Chic!

In getting ready for our big 4th of July day one of my projects consisted of making shirts for a group of us that will be participating in a local Push and Pull’em parade.  The parade is a blast where you decorate wagons, strollers,  bikes, and even make homemade push items (my hubs made a Corsair plane that is always a hit)!

I saw this idea via Pinterest and took it a different direction. I am in the process of making 6 shirts and they are SUPER easy.  All you need is some Jumbo Ric Rack, Gerber daisy, bling and a hot glue gun.  I got the T-shirts at Target for $7!

A Bit of Horsin’ Around!

Our church puts on quite a Vaction Bible School and opens it to the community for free. It runs a full week in the evening and over 300 kids from pre-k to high school come.  It is one of the best ran VBS’s I have ever witnessed and there are over 100 volunteers that take time out of their busy lives and give back to the kids in the church and community, me being one of them.  This year we also were a church that a VBS publication Gospel Light was there filming the use of their product so it was exciting for the kids to be a part of!

On the last night I wanted to give the group I was in (Craft Group of course) , the Children’s director and the Group Leaders of my 4-year-old daughter’s group a little something to say thank you, since I knew first hand how much work and commitment it took to pull off such a wonderful event!

The theme was “Wild West” and the craft team helped make cute ride’em ponies that were a huge hit with the kiddos, so in capturing that moment, I made goodie bags and a couple of cards!

Thanks for coming and sharing a piece of ” a bit of horsey business” pie with me!

Doin’ a Bit of Taggin’

I ordered the My Pink Stamper Birthday Doodle Kit during her release of the new product.  I have NEVER done the coloring stamping thing before and had a lot of fun doing it.  I whipped out this tag in just a matter of minutes as I was RUSHING, RUSHING, RUSHING out the door to the party all the while being able to coordinate the tag to the gift bag.

A Blooming Thank You!

Hello everyone!  As I was putting the finishing touches on this project last night, my craft studio shook and rattled for a split second, rolling my chair I was in across the room.  Yes, it was a 4.1 about 40 miles off the coast, yet I felt it.  Uggg… I dislike earthquakes terribly.

Now on to the project.  A friend wanted me to make something like these that she found on Pinterest.  I used Microsoft Publisher and printed these out on cardstock and then using the “Center” function on my Cricut Expressions, I cut these babies out.

I used party streamers and sewed the edges (like this tutorial) and made rosettes.  I had previously baked a whole set of ribbon making curly ribbon and used those as the finishing touches.

I am thinking I may enter this into the Die Cuttin’ Diva’s challenge this week – I feel they are different and original to fit their “Anything Goes Challenge“.

Now off to deliver them!

Thanks for sharing a bit of crafty time with a bit of rock, rattle and roll to it” pie with me.
