April Showers Bring Rainbow Smiles!

FCCB_DT_btn

Happy Monday all!  Today over at Fantabulous Cricut, we have a new challenge on deck!  April showers using an umbrella.   Sadly, I don’t see much rain since I live in the ever sunny Southern California, but when we do see rain we normally see rainbows, which always make me smile!  That was my inspiration for this week’s challenge.

DSC_6282

This card was super fun to make! It is a 6×6.5 inch card. The base card stock is from Stampin’ Up and the inked edges is from Close to My Heart Slate stamp ink.  I had both my Circut and Silhouette sharing duties.  I found the cloud cut over at the Silhouette store by Lori Whitlock.  I cut it twice, inked the edges and stamped the sentiment using Scrappy Moms Kids Incorporated stamp set. I used Pop Dots to add height to the layers.

DSC_6285

For the umbrellas I cut each from Cricut cartridge, Everyday Pop-Up Cards at 1.5 inches using Recollection Bright card stock.  I then ran them through the Cuttlebug using Cuttlebug embossing boarders.  I added different heights using Pop Dots.  Using mini Glue Dots, I added Dew Drops, from Robin’s Nest and Skittles.

This is going to be a hard card to let go, since it truly makes me smile.  Now be sure to head over to FCCB and see the other amazing inspirations that the rest of the design team has cookn’ and link up your April Showers and umbrella project using at least ONE Cricut cut.

Thanks for sharing a piece of “who does not smile when they see rainbows” pie with me.

Time for a Spot of Tea!

DTC-Designer

It is another fantastic challenge kicking off over at Decorate to Celebrate with this round’s theme being “Tea Party”!  As many of you know, I am  mother of two little girls so one can imagine the many impromptu tea parties we have around here.  I decided to make this cheery chalkboard sign to hang on my kiddo’s playhouse front door to announce upcoming tea parties we throw for their dolls and play dates.  I swear, I am such a BIG little girl at heart!

DSC_6199

I found the wooden tea pot at Michales recently and applied a quick and dirty coat of cream colored craft paint.  While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I pulled out the Silhouette and cut the circle stencil on 12×12 card stock and used Glue Dots to secure to the tea pot so I could spray the chalkboard paint to the project.

While the chalkboard paint was drying I took laser cut bees I found at Michales and glittered the wings using Piccolo Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter securing with Glastique. I then applied Piccolo 3D Enamel Gels (Lemon Butter, Colbalt Turquoise and Orange). I set them aside to set and dry.

DSC_6200

Once the chalk board paint dried  I heat embossed the tea pot with Piccolo Embossing Powder Adhesive and  Turquoise Lagoon Embossing Powder.

I then took some buttons and  threaded with Hemptique Hemp .2 mm thread and hot glued to the bees.  I then took the thread and some Hemptique Hemp Cord and tied around the top of the tea pot and then threaded a button with more hemp thread and hot glued to the center.  I fluffed the cord and thread.  I was very happy how the hemp thread texture and vibrant colors really complimented this project with following the whimsy feel, yet keeping the all natural no-nonsense integrity of the product.  If you have not worked with hemp and all natural crafting products, you must add that to your list and check out my friends over at Hemptique!

Now be sure to head over to Decorate to Celebrate and see the amazing “Tea Party” ideas that the rest of the design team has come up with and LINK UP your creative tea time inspiration.

Thanks for sharing a piece of “enjoying every spot of tea party my little ones invite me to” pie with me.

Happy Sunday All!  I can’t believe NEXT Sunday will be Easter! Wow time is flying by and I guess it feels that way since I have been very busy in my craft room and in the hub’s workshop cookn’ up some fun playtime goodies for our two little girls.

A while ago we decided we needed to make something that would hold all the dolls and doll swag our little girls are starting to accumulate.  I wanted it to be interactive as well as organized storage.  The hubs and I sat down started to design a concept.  We came up with a design, made a blueprint and headed to the wood store.

DSC_6106

It has taken a few weekends to knock out these two pieces, but we had a blast doing it.  We still have a large drawer to make and that is soon to be in the mix of construction. DSC_6096

I had a blast putting my Silhouette to work and cutting out vinyl and transferring it onto sections of these structures, spray painting and peeling off.  I found the cuts at the Silhouette store from Samantha Walker and Lori Whitlock.  DSC_6097

Every Rainbow has its Pot of Gold!

DTC-Designer

This year Larry the Leprechaun has a competing role with Mr. Cottontail in the regards to my holiday decor schedule.  I decided to make room among the flowers, birdhouses and bunnies to honor the “Luckiest Day of the Year” by making this festive and very lucky wreath.  I know… NOT ANOTHER WREATH!!!!  I love wreaths and I love making them and any excuse to make one, I jump at the chance and today’s challenge over at Decorate to Celebrate of a ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY or EVENT gave me that excuse!  Let’s celebrate EVERYTHING WONDERFUL ABOUT LEPRECHAUNS, SHAMROCKS, RAINBOWS, and POTS O’ GOLD with your table decorations, party banners, pennants, yard signs, cupcakes, party favors and more!

DSC_5879

Believe it or not this wreath was tossed together in just under an hour (minus the over night dry time for the glittered parts).  All I did was pull a 18 inch grapevine wreath out of my “wreath making stash” and put my Silhouette Cameo to work cutting out some St. Patty’s Day Charms from their store on chipboard at 1.5 inches.  Then using clear adhesive and course and fine glitter from Recollections, I glittered front and back of the charms. I strung the rainbow charms onto white twine and tied directly to the wreath at a slant.

DSC_5881

I then modified the Pot of Gold charm to no longer have the toggle and increased the size to around 4 inches and cut on chipboard.  I applied Piccolo Enamel Adhesive and dusted the base of the pot with  Piccolo Vintage Copper Enamel Powder and hit it with some heat.  I then added some clear adhesive to the void area at the top of the pot and dusted with Piccolo Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter (this stuff really looks like  real gold!).  I then tied some burlap ribbon I scored from Close to My Heart around the wreath and tucked it under the wrap to create a “pillow” effect.  I then hot glued the pot of gold to the center of the “burlap pillow.

DSC_5882

DSC_5884

A few weeks ago Pick Your Plum had chalk board stakes for sale so I picked me up some of those!  I modified it by removing the stake and stamping the sentiment, using My Pink Stamper’s Happiest Moments stamp set with White Daisy ink from Close to My Heart. I then inked the border with Topiary ink from Close to my Heart and kissed it with some gold Smooch Spray.   I tied and fluffed some white tulle around the wreath and then using a made up tucking method, I fluffed the ends to look like a cloud.  Funny what you come up with in the middle of the night!  Then is sprinkled some more Piccolo Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter on the white fluff and set with hair spray, yes I did say hair spray.  That stuff really works well in setting glitter! I then hot glued the sentiment plaque to the center of the cloud.

DSC_5880

Lastly, I wrapped some more burlap ribbon to the top of the wreath and there you have it!

Now it is your turn to get creative and pop over at Decorate to Celebrate and see what my fellow Design Team members have cooked up for some fun and lucky inspirations and link up your lucky projects!

A Birthday that “Bears” Celebrating!

DSC_5823[1]

Happy Monday all!  If you came over from Fantabulous Circut Challenge Blog‘s recent challenge, you are in the right place.  If you are just joining me, you need to head over to FCCB and check out the fun inspirations that the amazing design team has in cooked up.  This week’s theme is Fun with Puns.  All you need to do is make a project using at least ONE Cricut cut and have a fun pun to go along with your project theme!  I can’t wait to see what you got up your sleeves!

This week I decided to kill two birds with one stone and make my oldest daughter’s birthday invitations while keeping this challenge in mind.  We will be celebrating at Build -A – Bear Workshop this year, so I had to get my paws on the new Teddy Bear Parade Cricut Lite Cartridge!  Oh my did we have a hard time deciding what bear theme to use.  The soon-to-be birthday girl decided upon a cute ballerina bear!

For the sentiment tag, I pulled out my Silhouette and printer and put them both to work!  I created this by piecing different images from the stock images that come with the Studio software.  I came up with the pun on the fly and threw it all together pretty quickly. I inked the edges headed straight for my Circut to start on the cute little bears!

DSC_5824[1]

Using Cricut Craft Room, I designed the bears to be around 3 inches and built them from there.  I added some faux stitching, inked a bit around the edges and some cute bling flowers and called it a day!  Having to make many of these, is a bit timed consuming, but I had a great little helper!  The base paper I used was from American Crafts  Hip, Hip, Hooray! 6×6 paper stack I found at Target!  LOVE THIS PAPER!  I used the paper from the same stack for the tutu and shoes.  I added some bubblegum pink crinkle ribbon from Kristen Swain. These invites fit in an A2 envelope!

Ring in the New Year Blog Hop!

New Year Blog Hop 2013
Happy New Year and welcome to the Ring in the New Year Blog Hop sponsored and facilitated by the lovely Jill over at Everyday is an Occasion! If you have just stumbled upon this blog hop you can follow along by starting at Ribbon’s and Glue. If you have been following along you should have come from Cut, Craft, Create.
The idea behind this blog hop is to use something “new”.  I decided to make a man’s gift using my Christmas gifts of the amazing Silhouette Cameo, some new vinyl and put to use a gift card from Target to purchase the container.

The Project!

I don’t know about you all, but I have a heck of a time making stuff that revolves around the male species, but I am finding that they like home crafted gifts more than anyone (I tease the hubs it is because his species are so darn cheap).  🙂  Anyway, I decided to make my brother-in-law something he could put to good use while he is at work.  He has quite a few direct reports and if you have ever had to manage people, keeping calm at all times is key.  He is also a M&M nut, so I decided to embrace the “Keep Calm…” phrase and pair it with his love for M&Ms.
DSC_5304
I found the container at Target, traced the lid on some fun chevron paper from My Mind’s Eye and cut out the shape.  Then by applying Glastique Matte to both top and bottom of the paper, I glued down the paper to the top of the metal top. It worked brilliantly. . . better than Mod Podge would! I then  hot glued some fun “Keep Calm and Carry On’ ribbon I found at Michaels around the rim and set aside to dry.
DSC_5309
Using my Silhouette and the stock font, I created the text for the jar, “Keep Calm and M&M On”.  I cut it out on red vinyl from Pick Your Plum’s recent sale and using transfer tape I transferred it onto the glass jar.  I finished it by filling it up with the Party Size bag of M&Ms.  I know he is just going to LOVE this and will have fun having a “M&M break” each day!

The Snowflake Project

DSC_5380

Happy Day After Christmas! I hope you all are enjoying the bliss of the holiday after-glow!   It has been a whirl wind, but I loved watching my kids in the magic of it all!

Today I am going to share a project I made for a project  for the decorations for the new Sandy Hook Elementary School.  The goal is to get crafters to make snowflakes and mail it to them so they can use it for the Winter Wonderland theme they are going to use.  Click HERE for all the details.

I found a simple Silhouette image and cut it out at around 5 inches on chipboard.  I then punched a hole at the top of one point with my Crop-A-Dial.  After that I applied Glastique Matte and then dusted with Piccolo Pure Sparkle Silver Glitter. I shook off the excess and repeated on the opposite side once dry.

I ran some ribbon through the hole and packaged it up and sent it out to be part of the many that will hang to greet the students that endured so much just two weeks ago.  My prayers are with them, their families, the community and those that were directly effected by the tragedy.

To check out more about the glitter used in this project, please head over to Globecraft & Piccolo’s blog to see my product highlight.

Handmade Winter Gift Exchange!

handmade-gift-exchange-june-12

I decided to participate in the Craftaholics Anonymous Winter gift exchange.  This is were you sign up on Elfster and then you get paired up with another crafter to make a gift for each other.  I have not yet received my gift from my pair, but will share it with you all when I get it.  I sent my project to her last Friday, so I am pretty sure it is safe to link up my project back over to Craftaholics Anonymous.

I decided to make another yarn wreath . . . Shocking!  I love making these and believe it or not, I am making another one right now.  They are a bit time consuming, but I find them relaxing to make. This is probably the closest thing to knitting or crochet I will ever get. 🙂  My match-up lives in Orlando and works for Walt Disney World.  Her profile picture was her with Mickey, so I thought it was safe to say, she is a bit of a Disney nut.

DSC_4923

For the wreath, I used a 12 inch round foam wreath and wrapped it with red, black and white yarn. I cut the image using this tutorial as a guide from my Silhouette.  This machine rocks and it was so easy to take an image from Google Images and make the images.  I cut them on a thick piece of  black card stock from Papertreyink and chipboard for a solid structure.   Once I glued together the black card stock to the chipboard, I glittered the top of the image.

DSC_4914

DSC_4920

I made ribbon flower using a zip tie to hold it together and then hot glued it to the yarn wreath I made.  I added different sized buttons to make Mickey head and ears.

Uh-Oh! Someone May be Two-Timing on Her Cricut!

I have a confession to make. . .  I decided to join the Silhouette Cameo party and just received mine in the mail this week. This will never take away my love for my bug, but I did feel like I was two timing a bit on it! 🙂 However, this machine is soooo cool!  I am just getting my feet wet with figuring it out and I started that with this project I made for the father of a very close friend. We were invited to his 75th  birthday party and I wanted to make something very special for him.

He has a nickname of the “Pumpkin Man” since he makes family and close friends ceramic jack-o-lanterns with their names carved in the mouth smile. They also light up and they are perfect for Halloween!  When we got married, we got a big pumpkin with our last name for a wedding present and when both of my girls were born, I got one with their names carved for a baby gift.

With all that in mind, I decided to make a sign for his front porch.  I found a 12×18 wood board at Michael’s and I painted it in two layers of brown, burnt  orange and white.  I then sanded it down to distress and weather it.

I then cut out vinyl lettering in the Times Roman font and I found a cut at the Silhouette shop of the pumpkins.  I used the cut twice, but flipping the second (which ca be done by a simple right click to find that feature).  I cut this out on a gold metallic vinyl that I got from expressionsvinyl.com.

I think this turned out really cute and it was a great first-time project!

Thanks for sharing a piece of  a tad bit of two-timing on my bug” pie with me.
