Every Rainbow has its Pot of Gold!

DTC-Designer

This year Larry the Leprechaun has a competing role with Mr. Cottontail in the regards to my holiday decor schedule.  I decided to make room among the flowers, birdhouses and bunnies to honor the “Luckiest Day of the Year” by making this festive and very lucky wreath.  I know… NOT ANOTHER WREATH!!!!  I love wreaths and I love making them and any excuse to make one, I jump at the chance and today’s challenge over at Decorate to Celebrate of a ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY or EVENT gave me that excuse!  Let’s celebrate EVERYTHING WONDERFUL ABOUT LEPRECHAUNS, SHAMROCKS, RAINBOWS, and POTS O’ GOLD with your table decorations, party banners, pennants, yard signs, cupcakes, party favors and more!

Believe it or not this wreath was tossed together in just under an hour (minus the over night dry time for the glittered parts).  All I did was pull a 18 inch grapevine wreath out of my “wreath making stash” and put my Silhouette Cameo to work cutting out some St. Patty’s Day Charms from their store on chipboard at 1.5 inches.  Then using clear adhesive and course and fine glitter from Recollections, I glittered front and back of the charms. I strung the rainbow charms onto white twine and tied directly to the wreath at a slant.

I then modified the Pot of Gold charm to no longer have the toggle and increased the size to around 4 inches and cut on chipboard.  I applied Piccolo Enamel Adhesive and dusted the base of the pot with  Piccolo Vintage Copper Enamel Powder and hit it with some heat.  I then added some clear adhesive to the void area at the top of the pot and dusted with Piccolo Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter (this stuff really looks like  real gold!).  I then tied some burlap ribbon I scored from Close to My Heart around the wreath and tucked it under the wrap to create a “pillow” effect.  I then hot glued the pot of gold to the center of the “burlap pillow.

A few weeks ago Pick Your Plum had chalk board stakes for sale so I picked me up some of those!  I modified it by removing the stake and stamping the sentiment, using My Pink Stamper’s Happiest Moments stamp set with White Daisy ink from Close to My Heart. I then inked the border with Topiary ink from Close to my Heart and kissed it with some gold Smooch Spray.   I tied and fluffed some white tulle around the wreath and then using a made up tucking method, I fluffed the ends to look like a cloud.  Funny what you come up with in the middle of the night!  Then is sprinkled some more Piccolo Pure Sparkle Gold Glitter on the white fluff and set with hair spray, yes I did say hair spray.  That stuff really works well in setting glitter! I then hot glued the sentiment plaque to the center of the cloud.

Lastly, I wrapped some more burlap ribbon to the top of the wreath and there you have it!
