A Birthday that “Bears” Celebrating!

DSC_5823[1]

Happy Monday all!  If you came over from Fantabulous Circut Challenge Blog‘s recent challenge, you are in the right place.  If you are just joining me, you need to head over to FCCB and check out the fun inspirations that the amazing design team has in cooked up.  This week’s theme is Fun with Puns.  All you need to do is make a project using at least ONE Cricut cut and have a fun pun to go along with your project theme!  I can’t wait to see what you got up your sleeves!

This week I decided to kill two birds with one stone and make my oldest daughter’s birthday invitations while keeping this challenge in mind.  We will be celebrating at Build -A – Bear Workshop this year, so I had to get my paws on the new Teddy Bear Parade Cricut Lite Cartridge!  Oh my did we have a hard time deciding what bear theme to use.  The soon-to-be birthday girl decided upon a cute ballerina bear!

For the sentiment tag, I pulled out my Silhouette and printer and put them both to work!  I created this by piecing different images from the stock images that come with the Studio software.  I came up with the pun on the fly and threw it all together pretty quickly. I inked the edges headed straight for my Circut to start on the cute little bears!

DSC_5824[1]

Using Cricut Craft Room, I designed the bears to be around 3 inches and built them from there.  I added some faux stitching, inked a bit around the edges and some cute bling flowers and called it a day!  Having to make many of these, is a bit timed consuming, but I had a great little helper!  The base paper I used was from American Crafts  Hip, Hip, Hooray! 6×6 paper stack I found at Target!  LOVE THIS PAPER!  I used the paper from the same stack for the tutu and shoes.  I added some bubblegum pink crinkle ribbon from Kristen Swain. These invites fit in an A2 envelope!

Make sure you head over to FCCB and check out all the fun projects and join in on the fun by LINKING up!

Happy Geek Week!

cup3

So late last night I randomly found out that this week has been National Engineers Week!   Being married to a Mechanical Engineer, I had to have fun with this even though it is now Friday and the week is almost over. I tossed together some cupcake batter and popped them in the oven and grabbed some heavy cream, powder sugar and some gel food coloring and made a quick frosting.

While the cupcakes were baking, I whipped out some fun cupcake toppers totally on the fly using my Silhouette Cameo.  I found the Pi image online and imported, printed, and cut them in less than 10 minutes. Then I made the argyle sentiment toppers using the tools and color patterns that came stock on my Silhouette software in about 10 minutes as well.  I  have to say I L-O-V-E my Silhouette!  The cupcake toppers were done just as the cupcakes were ready to come out of the oven! PicMonkey CollageThe hubs is pretty happy to have a fun little treat to bring to the rest of the “Nerd Herd”.  I am super happy I could throw this together so quickly to close out a week that honors their genius innovation and brilliance and total logical approach they bring to the world.   The funny thing is, I don’t think any of them have any idea that this week exists nor do they really care, but they will love the fact it is a reason to get cupcakes! 🙂

Thanks for sharing a piece of “honoring the Nerd Herd” pie with me.

Countdown to Wedded Bliss!

DTC-Designer

This round for Decorate To Celebrate’s Challenge theme is Engagement/Wedding.  I thought this project would be a great inspiration for this challenge since it is a great gift idea to give to a bride-to-be that was very simple and easy to put together.  I made this with a bride-to-be in mind that has a demanding professional schedule of being a partner at a law firm and is now planning a beautiful french country inspired wedding for early this summer.  I can imagine the stress she could have on any given day and that may lend to loosing a bit of sight of how exciting her big day is going to be.  I wanted to separate her personal countdown to the BIG DAY away from the ever busy and very filled calendar she lives by.  I thought maybe having one sweet little treat daily, that would not compromise spin class progress, would be a sweet way to remember how much fun getting married is going to be! I hope she love this!

DSC_5805

Here is how I did it!

First I found the jar at Cost Plus World Market, for $3!  I then had these tags laying around I stamped the “Days till Wedded Bliss” using Close To My Heart Slate Ink and gStudio mini alphabet stamps.   I then applied some Globecraft and Piccolo Embossing/Enamel Adhesive around the edges and dusted with Piccolo Pink Poodle Enamel Powder.  When I shook off the excess powder, I nearly had a heart attack that the stamped letters grabbed the the embossing enamel and thought the stamped letters were ruined, however I decided to see what would happen if I did hit it with the heat gun!  This time curiosity did not kill the cat or the project in this case! It turned out really cute and looked intentional so I progressed on!

DSC_5798

I then cut two scalloped flowers from Cricut Cartridge Flower Shoppe at 3 and 4 inches using K&Company designer paper, inked the edges with the Close to My Heart Slate ink. I secured the flowers together with hot glue and then added to the tag using hot glue.   I then inked the edges of the tag with Close To my Heart Slate ink.

DSC_5803

Using Close to My Heart burlap ribbon and some Close to My Heart Vintage Designer Lace Ribbon, secured to the middle of the jar using hot glue.

DSC_5808

I had a little crystal-like heart that I added a button to and attached to the tag using Close to My Heart Embroidery Floss. I then wrapped the lip of the jar with Kristen Swain Crinkle Ribbon and tied the tag to it, finishing with a bow.

DSC_5802

I then added M&Ms that represent the days left until the BIG DAY!!!!  NOTE: You could get personalized M&Ms with the wedding date or the name of the bride an groom on it if you have time.

DSC_5804

Now head on over to Decorate to Celebrate and be inspired by all the amazing projects the team has made and link up your own wedded bliss project!   Hey it is almost spring, which means many of you are already getting those “save the date” notices for those summer weddings, so this challenge will help you stay ahead of all those sweet nuptials you will be attending this year!

Thanks for sharing a piece of “love is truly in the air” pie with me!

Sweet Tweet! Spring is in the Air!

GnP-Design-Team-Logo-175

I know it is only mid-February, but with 80 degree temps in our neck of the woods, I could not help but feel as if there is a bit of “spring” in the air and wanted to make this fun grapevine wreath using Globecraft and Piccolo 3-D Enamel Gels to add color and dimension to a $ find I scored at Michaels!

Since I was adding so much color to the birdcage, I decided to practice a great amount restraint in not over designing this wreath. To me spring translates new, fresh, clean and simple. I wanted to make a wreath that can be easily crafted together in a short amount of time; a great quick gift idea that will bring lots of smiles!

Sweet Tweet 1

sweet tweet 2

Materials List:

  • Globecraft & Piccolo Cobalt Turquoise 3D Enamel Gel
  • Globecraft & Piccolo Orange 3D Enamel Gel
  • Globecraft & Piccolo Butter Cream 3D Enamel Gel
  • Globecraft & Piccolo Mustard Yellow 3D Enamel Gel
  • Globecraft & Piccolo Napthol Red 3D Enamel Gel
  • My Mind’s Eye (MME) 6×6 Paper Stack – “Sunny”
  • Micheals Laser Cut Wood Birdcage
  • Panada 6 inch Box Wreath
  • Twinery Butter Cream twine
  • Celebrate It 1/2 inch orange ribbon
  • Cricut Die Cut Machine
  • Cricut Cartridge Celebrations (pennant stencil cut at 1 1/4 inch, 1 1/2 inches, and 1 3/4 inches)
  • Stampin’ Up Pumpkin Ink
  • Dauber
  • Close To My Heart Red Assortment Buttons
  • Hot Glue
  • Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive
  • Scissors
  • Bone Folder
  • Pencil (for tracing pennant stencil)
  • Straight Pin

Step 1: Applying Globecraft & Piccolo 3D Enamel Gel: Starting with the Butter Cream Globecraft & Piccolo 3D Enamel Gel, apply to the cage’s outline. Then begin to apply the color to the flowers using a straight pin to pull the color through to areas that are tight. You do not need to wait for each color to dry. The beauty of this product is that is has a thick consistency and does not run or spread as long as you take care in not running over the other color boarders. Set aside and let set and dry for a couple of hours (mine dried in about an hour, but I live in a drier climate – if pressed for time, you can set your oven at the lowest temp possible and the door cracked to speed the process. just keep a watchful eye on it).

sweet tweet 3Step 2: Paper Pennants: I used a Cricut die ctt machine to make the stencils for the paper pennants, but you can use a Silhouette or cut them out free handed. Using a designer paper of your choice, create a fold using a bone folder and trace the pennants using the stencils (this will create the “diamond shape that folds over the twine to secure the pennants). I cut two pennants each from three different coordinating design paper with coordinating sizes to match the design paper.

Once all pennants are cut, ink edges with a dauber, glue pennant together (ONLY THE BOTTOM PORTION OF PENNANT, so you have an opening to run the twine through), then run each pennant through a 20 inch piece of twine, tie to the back of the wreath and cut off any extra length.

sweet tweet 4

Step 3: Button Embellishments: To add the button embellishment to the top of the birdcage start by first applying hot glue to the bottom button and securing the top button. Once cooled, apply the button set to the top of the birdcage.

sweet tweet 5

Step 4: Assembling the Wreath: Assemble the wreath by securing the birdcage with hot glue and using a slip knot technique to add the ribbon at the top of the wreath for hanging. The pennants were already added, but you may need to rearrange or straighten them out a bit.

Sweet Tweet 1

There you have it! Sweet, simple and done in not time flat! Head on over to Globecraft and Piccolo’s online store to gather up the supplies so you can cook up this springtime wreath! Also head over to my post over at Globecraft and Piccolo’s blog and see my other birdcage inspired wreath project using their book board charms, powder enamels and more 3D enamel gels!

Thanks for sharing a piece of “spring is in the air” pie with me.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Yay!  Today is the big Hallmark Holiday, which I used to hate until I had kids!  Kids make everything so much fun!  This morning I made my family a fun heart inspired breakfast and even made pink whipped cream for our lattes and hot coco!  I made a scavenger hunt for the girls to find their Valentines and oh did they have fun! Tonight I am making a fun dinner of lobster pasta- a family favorite and big treat! Who needs going out when we can have so much more fun here!

Like promised I am excited announce the winner from The Lovely Blog Hop, the random lucky winner to win the quartet of fabulous washi tape is Angi from Cokie Pop Paper Boutique!  Congratulations and Happy Valentine’s Day!  I will be contacting you for your info!

DSC_5727

I made some fun Valentine mailboxes to pass out in our inner circle of family and friends. This idea has been seen around the blog world, but my two inspirations of these were from my two very good blog buddies Holly from Ribbons and Glue and Missy from Quick Chick Designs!  They were simple to pull together only using my Chop-A-Dile, paper cutter, a few stamps and washi tape.

DSC_5729

The stamp image and sentiment is from My Pink Stamper Special Delivery stamp set, paper and metal mailboxes were collected from the dollar bin at Target. The washi tape came from Queen & Co and Paper Issues. I cut the strips that wrapped around the  mailbox 2.5 x12 inches.  The design paper on the end caps were cut at 2.5 x 2.5 inchs.  The white card stock on front was cut at 2.5 x1 inch and the back piece was cut at 2 x 1 inch. I added some heart embellishments I had left over from my kids Valentine stash.

A Valentine Sweet!

Happy Monday All!  I can’t believe it is almost Valentine’s Day!  Today over at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog we are kicking off this week’s challenge with making Valentines!  You will want to get in on this so be sure to pop on over and check out all the sweet inspiration from the design team and link up a Valentine using at least one Cricut cut!

Here is what I cooked up for this week’s inspiration

fccb

This card was super quick and easy to make!  The card was a cut from Samantha Walker Designs found over at the Silhouette store!  I resized this card to be around 5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide.  I found this card fits nicely in one of the extra envelopes that I had left over from my Costco Christmas cards.  I decided to raid my scrap stash to make this card and thankfully I had enough of everything! I embossed the black card stock with the Christmas Trio Cuttlebug folder set.  I inked the boarder with Stampin Up Classic black.

DSC_5575

For the candy dispenser I cut just one layer at 3 inches and modified it to fit an adhesive treat heart I found through Stampin’ Up.  I embossed the the dispenser with Cuttlebug Swiss Dots.  Using CANDi embellishments, I glued two of the CANDi pieces together to make them 3-D and added them into the heart and constructed the candy dispenser onto the black card stock.  I love how this really looks like candy in a candy dispenser!

DSC_5577

I added baker’s twine from the Twinery, stamped the sentiment from My Pink Stamper’s Happiest Moments stamp set and added more cute little CANDi to the heart!

DSC_5583

On the inside of the card I added some white card stock that was inked with Close to My Heart Holiday Red.  I added washi tape from Queen and Co’s Valentine line and yes, MORE CANDi!

Now be sure you head over to FCCB and join in on the fun this week!

Thanks for sharing a piece of “who needs Hallmark when you can make it yourself” pie with me!

Now on to the tutorials!

For the soap:  I found the 2 lb scored clear glycerin soap brick on Ebay. It is made in the USA.  It was around $7, but shipping was about the same.  YIKES!  However, a little goes a long way, so you get your money’s worth.  I found a how-to example on Pinterest, but  I decided to document how I did this, since I was using different tools.

swpix3
First I cut up the glycerin soap only using two scored rows and chopped coarsely (the original tutorial said it breaks apart easily with your hands, that was so not the case with my brick. That stuff was hard as a rock!).  I found that two rows makes one batch using my mold.  I then added the chopped pieces to a glass measuring cup and microwaved it to melt it down in 3-4 ten second intervals stirring it each time (you really need to babysit this part, but what is 40 seconds of babysitting?).
swpix4
I then pulled out my silicone heart mold I found at IKEA for $1 and poured the melted soap into the mold at a little under a half.  I then added Recollections Berry Red Course Glitter for one batch and then some $ Bin find heart shaped glitter for the second batch.  You need to move quickly, because it sets up fast.  Once glitter was added, I then allowed for it to harden just for about a minute and then topped off each heart with the melted glycerin.
swpix5
It takes about 15 minutes to completely set.  All you do  is pop them out of the mold and they are done!  Easy peasy!
swpix7
For the box:  You can find the Pair of Hearts cut over at Silhoutte, click HERE!   It imports to your screen with both boxes fitting on one 12×12 piece of card stock (I used the stock size that it was imported in and was super happy with the size- it was nice not to have to mess with re-sizing for a quick project).  When doing a test cut I found that I needed to make sure to use a thicker design paper due to needing more structure; I used Crate Paper, Little Bo Peep.  I placed the side of the paper I wanted to see on the outside of the box facing up.  I did do “multi-cut”.  Once cut, I folded the box, using a bone folder. I then inked the edges with Close To My Heart White Daisy stamp ink.
box1
I then formed the box and glued the two flaps to secure it.
box2
Once glue dried, I  filled the boxes and closed them up (one box held 5 pieces of Bliss chocolates and one box held 4 heart soaps.)  I then attached the boxes together.
box3
Once boxes were assembled, filled and attached, I cut a piece of white tulle that was about 2.5 inches x 12 inches. I then wrapped that around the box and tied a bow at the top.  I then made a button chain using Close to My Heart Red Assortment buttons and Close to My Heart Bubblegum Embroidery Floss using the below technique.
box4
I then tied the button chain to the center of the bow and then wrapped Close To My Heart Cotton Candy Designer Ribbon around the middle of the bow to hide the embroidery floss.
swval2
I then attached the button on the button chain to the box for more security with Glue Dot minis.
swval3
There you have it! A sweet and chic Valentine treat!
swpix1
Thanks for sharing a piece of “wishing you a very sweet and squeaky clean Valentine’s Day” pie with me and be sure to head over to see what sweet, and I do honestly do mean sweet (I have had the honor to meet her) Courtney, from Courts Crafts Corner has to share!

Quick, Cheap, Simple and NO SEW Pennants!

Happy Friday All!

As promised I am sharing the “how-to” on the pennants and stands for a sweet Valentine’s Day decor.  This is something you could knock out in a few hours and that includes the trip get the goods!  This project cost around $10 to make.  A perfect project for this weekend! You could also whip one out for St. Patrick’s Day or even Easter!

tut 3

Step 1: First I found the “stands” at Home Depot.  They are table legs. The do have screws at the bottom, so use a pair of pliers and twist it out (remember righty tighty, lefty loosey 🙂 )  I first applied two coats of Gesso Primer paint (you can use just plain white craft paint instead if you don’t have it on hand)  I then LIGHTLY sanded down the rough and uneven painted areas.  I then started to build my paint layers using pink and red, making sure each color was dry before applying the next (make sure each just apply the colored layers in a random and spotty way, you are going for a rustic feel).  For the top coat of white, I applied two coats to completely cover the table stand.  Once dried, I then hand sanded each table stand to expose the color coats in random rustic pattern.

tut1

Step 2: I had the fabric store cut four different fabric patterns at 1/4 of a yard.  I then ironed each piece of fabric.  Be sure to fold in half with the back exposed and iron flat.  I then cut a 5 inch pennant from Cricut Cartridge Celebrations, using the “foundation pennant” on plain white card stock.  You can just as easily make your own stencil free hand as well.   I then placed the stencil at the top of the fold and traced it using a colored pencil.  Once all four fabric pieces are traced, cut and lay out flat. To fasten the two pieces of the pennant together, you can either use hot glue or heavy duty double sided tape.  I used double sided tape (be sure to really press down the tape before pulling off the top strip).  BE SURE TO LEAVE A LARGE ENOUGH GAP AT THE TOP OF PENNANT SO YOU CAN RUN A PIECE OF YARN THROUGH. Flip top over and adhear to the bottom.  String through and attach to each painted table leg

tut 2

Step 3: In making the hand crochet bows, make a 12 inch chain using three different colors of yarn cut at 24 inches each and tied together at the bottom.  Once chain is made, tie in a bow and attach a Glue Dot to the back of each bow and attach to the table leg (the reason I used a Glue Dot instead of hot glue is that the bows are removable and I can use the table legs for another themed pennant project (birthday party, Easter, etc.).  To see how to make the hand crochet chain, check out the included YouTube video I found!

Love is in the Air . . . Let’s Decorate!

DTC-Designer

Hello and Happy Wednesday!  If you came over from Decorate to Celebrate isn’t this Valentine decor just screaming sweet nothings! Before I get into the mushy details of this love fest decor, I have my own news to shout from the roof tops!  I am just thrilled to announce that this is my first post as a design team member for Decorate to Celebrate!  I have always loved that challenge blog and it has always inspired me.  To be a part of their team is just an amazing honor!  Make sure you pop over, get inspired, create and link back up!  We really want to see what you got cookn’ in the the Hallmark Holiday of Love department! dtc5 This project was a fun project to create.  I came back from CHA very inspired and creatively energized!  I had it planned out in my head for some time, but needed to roll up my sleeves and get on with it.  As you can see there are a lot of components but all were very easy to execute and on the C-H-E-A-P (music to the hubs ears)!    dtc 3 The pennants and stands were made in just a couple hours and the materials list was SHORT! PLUS IT WAS NO SEW!!!!!! All you need is fabric of your choice, yarn and wooden porch railing decor found at Home Depot, craft paint, hot glue, scissors, and sand paper!  I hand crocheted the bows . . .  look  HERE for the tutorial! dtc 4 This bouquet of love was so simple.  The metal tin came from the Target dollar bin and I rounded up some Valentine cupcake wrappers along with a foam ball and some straight pins.  This was made with 75 cupcake wrappers. All I did was fold the wrapper in half and “scrunch” the bottom and pin to the foam ball.  Continue until all the wrappers cover the area that does not fit inside the bucket! dtc 2 Now on to the heart shaped yarn wreaths!  If you have followed me for a while, you will know that I have a thing for making yarn wreaths.  I find them relaxing. I guess this is my version of knitting or crocheting.  It was super simple, just pick up some foam heart wreaths for around $2 each and some yarn! Tie a knot at one end of the yarn and then pin it to the back of the wreath and just get your wrap on and knot the end and pin it! dtc1 Last but certainly not least, YARN BALLS!  This was my first time tackling these little guys, but after being the master of yarn wreaths, this was easy peasy!  All I did was gather up 12 small foam balls, using the same technique as I did for making the wreaths.  A great project for indulging on bad reality TV and being  a couch potato!

I finished the project with a few pieces I picked up from Michael’s and Hobby Lobby’s home decor and Valentine section using as a container for the yarn balls, the love birds and glitter hearts.

I hope this was an inspiration and got you in the mood for crafting love!  Be sure to head over to Decorate to Celebrate and link up any Valentine decor projects you are working on for either a party or your home! Thanks for sharing a piece of “love for decor” pie with me!

Love Simply Made

GnP-Design-Team-Logo-175

Today I am sharing a fun and easy tutorial on how to make a simple yet very sweet Valentine’s Day decor using a Globecraft and Piccolo book board charms and Piccolo Enamel Powder and Piccolo Enamel 3-D Gel!

gppb7

Materials:

Step 1:

I picked up the decorative table leg at Home Depot and applied two coats of Gesso primer paint with a mini paint roller and set aside to dry.  I dusted it lightly with sand paper to smooth out the Gesso coats.  I then painted two coats each with pink, red and white craft paint allowing for dry time between each coat.  Once final coat of paint was dry, I sanded down to distress allowing the different layers of paint colors to come through.

gcpp1

Step 2:

While waiting for the paint to dry on the wood piece, I applied the Piccolo 3-D Enamel Gel to the book board keys using the the Piccolo Fine Line Applicator Tip for the delicate area.  Set aside to dry.  Once dry repeat on reverse side.

gppb2

Step 3:

While the the 3-D Enamel Gel is drying, apply Piccolo Enamel/Embossing Powder Adhesive to the book board heart.  Dust with Piccolo Poodle Skirt Enamel Powder, shake off excess and set with heat gun. Allow to cool to set.  Repeat this process 2 more times (this will really add color and amazing visual texture). Repeat same steps on reverse side.  Once both sides are complete, apply Glastique Gloss Finishing Glaze and allow to set and dry and then repeat on reverse side.  This protects, seals and adds a very appeasing smooth finish.

gppb3

Step 4:

For bringing this project to a close, I used some small stamps that had a type writer font I found in the bargain bin at Micheal’s and once I inked the stamps, I stamped off some of the ink on a scrap piece of paper to dull down when stamped onto the top of the wood piece. I made sure to stagger the letters in a random pattern to add to a vintage homecrafted  feel.  I then tied the book board keys and heart around the neck of the wood piece, using pink crinkle ribbon.

gppb

Be sure to have the heart charm hang down over the front of the wooden piece.

gppb8

There it is, a sweet and very simple Valentine Decor that just adds a nice touch to a Valentine’s Day themed tabletop, mantel or center piece.  How could you not fall in love with that gorgeous charm and key set!  All the glimmer, color and depth that heart holds just oozes the feel of romance!

gppb9

gppb7

Be sure to head over to Globecraft and Piccolo’s blog  and check out a coordinating Valentine’s Day project I made using their amazing enamel powders, 3-D enamel gels and book board pieces.  You can also head over to the online store, and indulge yourself on some amazingly rich -to-craft products instead of chocolate this Valentines Day.
